Long HOT Summer

This Summer has been so hot and humid, that my hair looks like this most of the time! We have enjoyed many days in the swimming pool, but with the humidity, and the rains it has been hard keeping the chemicals straight :/ . I know  a lot of you have waited for Summer after having long cold snowy winters, but boy oh boy am I ready for Fall and some much needed cooler weather!  I want my windows opened, to be able to put on a pair of jeans, and enjoy being outside and not turning into a big old puddle of sweat!  I want to see pumpkins and the beautiful colors of Fall !!!  So as I sit in my studio, I dream of cooler temps, pumpkins, scarecrows, and yes Snowmen and Santa's LOL.  Let the cooler weather begin!!! NOW !

A Rant About Esty's Policies

I am not one to rock the boat. I tend to keep to myself and just do my own thing. I am not one out to be hurtful, as a matter of fact; I will go out of my way not to hurt someone's feelings. In saying this I will also say that I am an Artist. I enjoy making a variety of dolls, from the cute and cuddly to primitive folk art.  I make raggedy's, Santa's, snowmen, and black dolls. My black dolls may be primitive or whimsical, just as are my white dolls.  Some dolls I had listed on etsy were named "mammys". Which is a period doll. In no way do I make these types of dolls to hurt anyone's feelings or degrade a race. It is what it is, it is a period doll.

Etsy has come up with a new policy that deems my black dolls as "hurtful" and "derogatory" and pulled them from their site.  I know I am not the only artist that has had their work pulled. But the part that really gets my goat, is that other artists have gone back to their listings and changed the name of their work to "black dolls" or "primitive black dolls" . They look the same as my dolls look, and some I know for a fact were called "mammy's" prior to this new policy.

So why should they be able to sell their dolls under a new name, but I can't relist my dolls under a new name??  Personally I think that if you are going to remove my doll because it has a certain "look" then you need to remove them all!  For those of you that ducked under the radar by changing the names of your dolls... well I'm just shaking my head, because you are more worried about making a dollar then standing up for your creative rights. You are letting a company call you a racist, hateful person... oh no wait you changed the names of your dolls so you weren't included in being told that you are hateful.

Oh and by the way, I'm not a racist, as a matter of fact I have a biracial grandson that I love with all my heart.

As far as Etsy goes, well I will keep my listings there until they expire, and then I will close my shop. I have already started a website to sell ALL my dolls on. Cedar Creek Primitives

Is it spring yet?

This has been the coldest winter that we have had since we moved to North Carolina 14 years ago! I am so ready for warmer weather, opened windows, planting flowers, and getting back outside!
So since I have been stuck inside, I am creating my own Spring! I have been busy making bunnies, spring time dolls, and frogs. I have a few new ideas that I need to sketch out that I will be working on this upcoming week.  So if spring won't come to me, I will make it for myself! Stay warm everyone!
